IN BRIEF
Worried about being remembered? Well, worry no more. This eternal 5D data storage could preserve the history of humankind for ages to come.
Store 360TB(368640GB) on a coin-sized quartz, for 14 billion years(14,000,000,000 Years),thanks to 5D lasers
** Lasts up to 14 billion years at 190 degree Celsius
** Written on nano structure glass using lasers
**Able to last virtually forever at room temperature
Small Storage Solutions
Researchers at Southamton University in the UK have developed the technique of storing data digitally using laser light. 360 terabytes of information can fit on one sliver of nano structured quartz. With this tech, we can store literally the whole of human history.
^^^ To put that in perspective they are able to withstand temperatures of up to 1000 degrees Celsius and can remain intact at 190 degree Celsius for just shy of 14 billion years.
^^^ Data is written to the clear fused quartz discs using ultra fast laser which fires extremely short and intense pulses of light. This writes files in three layers of nano structured dots separated by five micro meters, which is one millionth of a meter.
^^^ The team that created this invention are now looking for partners to further develop and commercialize the tech. So you could soon be recording data to a more permanent solution. Granted it will likely start out as a server solution, but may end up in personal devices in the not too distant future. Be careful what you record then.
Our Nano-Legacy
In the same way that the Pioneer Plaque is meant to be a communication tool between us and any extraterrestrial life, these tiny storage systems could someday inform other beings (maybe our far, far, far off descendants) about Earth and humanity after we are long gone.
The research team has written a series of major works on the small glass discs. These are the works that will outlive generations:

- The Universal Declaration of Human Rights
- Newton’s Opticks
- The Magna Carta
- The King James Bible
This new advance in storage makes the technique a genuine means of archiving vast quantities of information in perpetuity. We no longer have to fear the loss associated with tragedies like the Library of Alexandria.
